Assar Nathanael Thorvald Gabrielsson was
born in Skaraborgs län, Sweden on 13th August
1891. He had a Bachelor degree in Business
Administration, in 1916 he married Anna Teresia
Andersson and had four children in 1926 he
became managing director for AB Volvo. He along
with Gustav Larson founded Volvo. Assar
Nathanael Thorvald Gabrielsson died in 1962.
Erik Gustaf Larson was born on the 8th July 1887
and was a Swedish engineer and he held a Master
of Science degree. He married Elin Octavia
Fröberg in 1918 and had four children. Along
with Assar Gabrielsson he founded Volvo. He
worked for Volvo until his death in 1968.

1916: Assar Gabrielsson worked as sales manager at SKF
in Göteborg.

1924: Assar Gabrielsson and Gustaf
Larson decided to begin construction of a
Swedish car.

1926: Assar Gabrielsson becomes Managing
Director and the first prototype car was ready.

1927: Volvo was founded by SKF (SKF was
a Ball bearing maker.) Assar Gabrielsson was
managing director & Gustav Larson who was the
technical manager was appointed vice president.
The first car left the factory in April was the
Volvo OV 4.

1928:
The first series manufactured
trucks by Volvo was a success and was sold out
after six months.

1929: Wall Street
crash, which started the Great Depression, and
the car business was badly affected.

1930 - 1939: As the economy recovered from the
stock market crash Motor Car companies thrived
and less wealthy people began to purchase motor
vehicles. At the start of the 1930’s Volvo’s
truck sales had made the company financially
viable.

1939 - 1944: Production and design of
motor cars almost ceased as all manufacturing
resources became involved with the war effort.
Volvo was restricted on it's production of cars.

1944 the PV444 was Volvo’s first small car and
it was a success.

1951: Volvo introduced the B65 their
first mid-engine bus and the 50,000th car was
delivered.

1956: The Amazon was introduced a
mid-size car a popular model, and was the first
to have padded dashboards.

1959: IThe 3-Point Safety Belt, became
standard on all Volvo cars.

1960.
The P1800 was Volvo’s first sports
car.

1961: The P1800 made it’s debut in the
television series “The Saint” starring Roger
Moore at the wheel.

1962: Assar Gabrielsson died.

1964: In Torslanda, Sweden, Volvo opened
a plant which currently is one of Volvo’s
largest production sites and is capable of
producing 200,000 cars. In 1964 the first
rear-facing child seat was developed by Volvo.

It was documented a Volvo P1800S had been
driven over 2.6 million miles.

1968: Gustav Larson died.

1970: The last Amazon was pushed out of
the plant by hand by a group of people,
including Gunnar Engellau who was the President
of the Company.

investigative reporters was featured in the film
All the President's Men.

1979: Volvo began sponsoring the Show
Jumping World Cup until 1999.

The Volvo 340 became one of the
