1949: The Triumph 2000 Saloon was only made
for one year. It was basically an Triumph 1800
with a larger engine, front independent
suspension using transverse leaf springs. The
engine used was a 2088cc, four cylinder with a
single Solex carburettor that had been fitted to
the Vanguard. The engine developed 68bhp at
4200rpm. Also used from the Vanguard was the 3
speed gearbox, with synchromesh on all forward
ratios, this was also a column shift. The car
also had independent front suspension with a
solid rear axle with half elliptic leaf springs
at the rear. Brakes were Lockheed hydraulic with
229mm drums fitted.
