Maybach was founded by Wilhelm Maybach with
his son Karl Maybach as company director in
1909.
History of Maybach motor car company
Though founded in 1909, Maybach did not
produce their first car until 1919, and even
then it was a experimental car, with the first
production model introduced 2 years later at the
Berlin Motor Show. Maybach produced a few
classic cars between 1921 and 1940, when WW2 broke out
the company built engines for self propelled
guns and tanks. After the war, car
production never re-started and 20 years later the
company was renamed MTU Friedrichshafen.
Mercedes Benz, at the Tokyo Motor show
presented a concept luxury car named the
Mercedes Benz Maybach. After the concept
presentation,
Mercedes Benz decided to develop the car and
also decided to market the car under the brand name Maybach
in 2000.
