Marcos motor car company was founded in 1959 by Jem Marsh & Frank Costin in Luton, Bedfordshire,
England.
History

The following
company information and history timeline details
the dates of major events which influenced the
growth of the business.
1959: Jem Marsh & Frank Costin founded Marcos Cars in
Luton, Bedfordshire, England. With Frank
Costin’s aviation experience it gave him the
idea to use plywood for the chassis. The Marcos
name came from the combination of Marsh and Costin’s surnames.
1960: The first Marcos car, the Marcos GT
produced, only
39 were made.
1961: Frank Costin left the company,
Peter and Dennis Adams undertook the task of
evolving his designs.
1963: The company moved to Bradford on
Avon, Wiltshire.
1965: The Mini
Marcos introduced, a small inexpensive sports
car.
1969: The prohibitive cost of producing a wooden
chassis’s led the Adam's brothers to redesigning
the chassis in steel.
1971: Marcos moved to a purpose
built factory at nearby Westbury, Wiltshire. The
expense of moving to the new premises and the collapse
of the
UK market USA export problems resulted in
Marcos going out of business.
1976: Jem Marsh bought back the rights
to the Marcos name.
1981: A kit car the
Marcos V6 Coupe was launched.
1991: Due to demand from Japan the
Mini Marcos went back in to production.
2000: Marcos went bankrupt and
the wealthy Canadian Tony Stellinga bought the
company.
2007: Marcos unable
to make a profit from making hand-built low
volume ceased car production and
wentinto voluntary liquidation.
