The companies first model was released with the cooperation with the Ford motor Company, the Cortina in 1968. In 1976, exports began to Ecuador and soon after, the Benelux countries. The head of Hyundai, Chung Mong Koo was investigated in 2006 for corruption. 28th April, 2006, Chung Mong Koo was arrested, having bin charged for embezzlement of 100 billion, South Korean won, and Vice Chairman and CEO, Kim Dong-jin took over as head of Hyundai.
