AM General sold the name Hummer to General Motors in 1998, but continued producing the military vehicles itself. By 2006 GM's civilian Hummer, was being sold through imports and distributors to 33 countries. The following day, 2nd June, GM announced it had reached a deal to sell the brand Hummer to an undisclosed buyer, CNN then identified the buyer as a China-based Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Company Ltd.
