The Dodge brothers John and Horace started the company in Detroit, Michigan in November 1914.

History of Dodge motor car company
The following company information and history timeline details the dates of major events which influenced the growth of the business.

1914:  John and Horace Dodge brothers create the company Dodge.

1916:  Budd all steel bodywork established and used frequently.

1920:  Dodge climbed to second place in overall sales in US. Also John Dodge fell ill and died in January from pneumonia, His brother Horace Dodge died eleven months later in December from cirrhosis. The company fell into the hands of the brothers widows, they employed Frederick Haynes as the companies president.

1925:  Dodge drop's to fifth place in overall sales in US.

1926:  E.G. Wilmer named chairman in November, Frederick Haynes remains company president.

1927:  Breakthrough with an all new 3.7 litre six cylinder engined car exploding into the industry, but low sales dropping the company to seventh place in US car sales.

1928:  Dodge company sold to Walter Chrysler for $175,000,000. Dodge allowed to retain it's own brand individuality.

1933:  Dodge takes fourth place in car sales of that year.

1942:  Due to Japan's attack on Pearl Harbour, Dodge passenger car assembly is shut down in favour of war equipment production.

1945:  Dodge civilian vehicles produced again.

1953:  Styling to the Dodge improved following the employment of  Virgil Exner as design chief.

1954:  Sales dropped due to a "stubby" styling the public consumers did not like.

1955:  New era began for Dodge with a new futuristic style.

1961:  Three basic type of cars produced, the semi compact Dart, the bigger Coronets and the full size Polara and Moaco V8's

1966:  Company offers coupes instead of sedans.

1973:  Oil crisis changes everything for Dodge, their line up of cars were seen as inefficient due to size, Dodge moved slowly into downsizing their cars.

1992:  Dodge moved forward with the high performance Viper.

2006:  Dodge Charger launched.

2007:  DaimlerChrysler agreed with Cerberus Capital Management to sell off its Chrysler Group subsidiaries which the Dodge division was apart of.

2009:  Fiat, an Italian automaker formed a partnership with Chrysler, a new Chrysler was created and given the name Chrysler Group LLC which Dodge remains a part of.
