John Zachary DeLorean was born in Detroit,
Michigan in 1925, the eldest of four sons he
graduated in 1948 with a Bachelor of Science
degree in mechanical engineering he also got a
masters degree in automotive engineering, he was
appointed vice president of car and truck
production for General Motors until his
resignation in 1973. He was married four times.
He was married to Sally Baldwin until his death
in 2005.

1925: In 1925
John DeLorean was born.
1948: In 1948 John DeLorean graduated with a
Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical
engineering.
1952: In 1952 John DeLorean graduated with a
Masters degree in automotive engineering and
joined the Chrysler engineering team. In less
than a year he left and joined the
Packard
Motor Company.
1960: In the 1960’s John DeLorean moved to
General Motors.
1973: In 1973 John De Lorean unexpectedly
resigned from General Motors.
1975: In 1975 John DeLorean formed the DeLorean
Motor company. Johnny Carson, talk show host,
along with many more celebrities were persuaded
to back the new company.
1976: The first DeLorean prototype, the DMC 12
was produced.
1978: A manufacturing plant
created in Northern Ireland.
1981:The Dunmurry plant started
manufacturing, and the snazzy DeLorean DMC-12
car was debuted.
1982: A result of producing and selling less than 10,000 cars,
DeLorean was in financial difficulties and
was subsequently closed down. John DeLorean was filmed
appearing to accept money to take part in drug
trafficking.
1984: John DeLorean defended himself in court and
was found not guilty due to entrapment
1985: The DeLorean DMC-12 car got a huge popularity
boost when in the film Back to the Future
starring Michael J Fox when a “DeLorean” was
transformed into a time machine, if this had
happened four years earlier things may have been
different.
1999: In 1999 DeLorean declared bankrup
2005: In 2005 John DeLorean died
2007: In 2007
it was stated that the DeLorean DMC-12 would go back
into production by Stephen Wynn who is the current DeLorean
Motor company
owner.
