BMW Dixi 3/15 DA1 Car Facts, Description, Design & General Information
The BMW Dixi 3/15 DA1 has been on sale since
1927.
At that time, Fahrzeugfabrik Eisenach
manufactured vehicles under the Dixi marque, and
entered a contract to manufacture Austin Seven's
under contract with Austin Motor Company. The
first fifty Eisenach Sevens built were all right
hand drive, assembled in September with parts
provided by Austin's factory in Longbridge. By
December, Dixi began building a version of the
Seven in left hand drive called the Dixi 3/15 PS
DA-1, made from parts by Dixi. The DA-1 stood
for Erste Deutsche Ausfuhrung meaning First
German Version.
In October 1928, BMW bought Fahrzeugfabrik
Eisenach from Gothaer Waggonfabrik, this
resulted in the Dixi 3/15 PS DA-1 becoming the
BMW Dixi 3/15 DA-1.
The only differences between the Austin and BMW
Dixi 3/15 DA-1 was the BMW version had Bosch
shock absorbers, the use of metric fasteners and
the drivers controls were placed on the left
side of the vehicle.
