BMW 3/20 Car Facts, Description, Design & General Information
The BMW 3/20 BMW was the first automobile
designed by BMW. It was produced from 1932 till
1934, it was to replace the 3/15 model that was
still an Austin 7 essentially, produced under
licences from Austin Motor Company.
The BMW 3/20 used the engine based on the Austin
Sevens used in the 3/15, but with a crankshaft
in plain bearings rather than roller bearings
and it had an 80mm stroke generating more
displacement. The new engine also had an
overhead valve cylinder head and a water pump.
The changes to the engine generated 20hp.
The BMW 3/20 inherited the 3/15 DA 4's front
independent suspension, with the added
independent swing axle rear suspension, using a
similar set up to the front, using a transverse
leaf spring.
