The BMW 2000 was introduced in 1966 and produced till 1972. The "regular" BMW 2000 sedan appeared after the BMW 2000C, it was intended to be an upscale version of the 1800, featuring distinctive wide taillights, more exterior trim and unique rectangular headlights. Due to government regulations in America, the American marketed BMW 2000 sedans could not feature the rectangular headlights. So a different grille with four, individual, round headlights was offered in the US.
In a road and track test in 1967, the BMW 2000 sedan was "the best performing 2 litre sedan in today's market and the nest handling and best riding as well."
