August Horch was born.

1899: In 1899 August Horch established Horch &
Cie.

1901: In 1901 August Horch developed his first
car.

1909: In 1909 August Horch had a dispute and was
forced out of the company he had founded.

1910: In 1910 he named his new company Audi
Automobilwerke GmbH.

1921: In 1921 Audi was the first German
Manufacturer to produce a left hand drive car
drive.

1928: In 1928 Jorgen Skafte Rasmussen of DKW
acquired a majority of shares in Audiwerke.

1929: This was the year of the Wall Street
crash, which started the Great Depression, and
the car business was badly affected.

1930 - 1939: As the economy recovered from the
stock market crash Motor Car, companies thrived
and less wealthy people began to purchase motor
vehicles. In 1932 Horch, Wanderer, Audi & DKW
merged the new company was called Auto Union AG
they were hoping to serve the market from
motorcycles to luxury cars and the four
interlinked rings was the new company logo.

1939 - 1945: WW11. Production and design of
motor cars basically ceased as all manufacturing
resources became involved with the war effort.
Auto Union during the war became a supplier of
vehicles to the armed forces.

1950: In 1950 the DKW Meisterklasse F 89 P was
the first post war car a four seater cabriolet.

1951: In 1951 August Horch died.

1958: In 1958 Daimler-Benz acquired 87% of Auto
Union.

1959: In 1959 Daimler – Benz acquired 100%

1964. In 1964 Volkswagen Group acquired the
company.

1969: In 1969 Auto Union merged with NSU (NSU
started out as a knitting machine manufacturer,
by 1892 bicycle manufacturing replaced the
knitting machine Production. NSU had been the world's largest
manufacturer of motorcycles but had moved on to
produce small cars.)

1985: In 1985 the Auto Union and NSU brands were
effectively dead, the company's name was now
shortened to Audi AG.

1988: In 1988 the Audi V8 was built a luxury
sedan and was the company’s top of the range.

1994: in 1994 the Audi A8 a luxury executive car
replaced the Audi V8.

2004: Sales in Europe are growing strongly for
