1952: The AC
Petite coupe was produced, going back to the
very first AC car designs it featured 3 wheels,
this car provided an alternative to buying a
second hand motorbike as a basic and
economical means of transport. The Petit
featured a proper car type 12 volt electrics
including dynamo and starter motor.
Hydraulic brakes were fitted to the rear
wheels only. The engine crankshaft was fitted with a
three groove pulley, with 3 parallel V belts
driving a larger external flywheel and
clutch assembly mounted on a separate
gearbox. The fly wheel had teeth on it much
like a car, for the starter. The gearbox was
mounted above the diff with a chain drive
joining them. The body was made with alloy
panels mounted over a steel chassis, seating
a driver and two passengers.
